Dr. Arumugam is the Librarian at the Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA), Bengaluru, where he leads transformative digital initiatives focused on modernizing library and archival services. He has successfully implemented an Integrated Library Management System (Koha), an Institutional Repository (DSpace), a collaborative knowledge platform (WordPress), and Archives Online Finding Aids (AtoM). He is currently spearheading additional digital initiatives including research data management, digital preservation strategies, and integrated discovery solutions to further strengthen research support infrastructure. With over 22 years of professional experience spanning knowledge management, archives, project management, agile methodologies, library automation, digital libraries, artificial intelligence, and enterprise content management, Dr. Arumugam brings a strong blend of academic scholarship and industry expertise.
He began his career as a Project Assistant at Vergis Electronics Publishing, contributing to major library automation and digitization projects for prestigious institutions such as the Prime Ministers’ Museum & Library, New Delhi, and the National Library, Kolkata. He later completed Postgraduate Training in Information and Knowledge Management (PGIKM) at the National Centre for Science Information (NCSI), Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, specializing in content and knowledge management. Dr. Arumugam has held key Knowledge Management roles in organizations including Premier Evolvic Pvt. Ltd., Deloitte, HP, and Wipro Technologies. His industry experience includes developing enterprise KM portals, managing taxonomy and content systems, facilitating communities of practice, implementing innovation management platforms, and leading large-scale SharePoint migrations to cloud environments. At Wipro Technologies, he played a strategic role in redeveloping and migrating over 50 SharePoint applications to the cloud, contributing to the organization’s top ranking in O365 SharePoint Online adoption.
He earned his Ph.D. in Knowledge Management from Madurai Kamaraj University for his research titled “Developing Frameworks and Methodologies for Knowledge Management Projects in Information Technology Industries in India.” He has authored 20 research publications in journals, conference proceedings, and edited volumes. In addition, he actively contributes to the professional community as a Resource Person for invited talks and as a Session Chair at 14 national and international conferences, congresses, and symposia.
Dr. Arumugam holds multiple professional certifications, including Digital Certified Delivery Manager (DCDM), Project Management Certified Professional (PMCP), and Wipro Scrum Master (WSM). He has also completed the General Course on Intellectual Property from WIPO Academy and holds a Diploma in Computer Programming (DCP).
